The Retail Therapy Trap

Have you ever felt hurt, heartbroken, unworthy, not good enough, frustrated, sad, depressed and then been told “All you need is some Retail Therapy” to make you feel better?

So you go out buy those latest designer shoes or that 60 inch TV with the surround speakers and all on credit, then a couple of weeks later the credit card bill comes you regret it and even wonder why you bought it – buyers remorse engulfs you. Retail Therapy has to be one of the biggest lies and traps of the enemy, to keep you a slave to the lender, keep you trapped in constant state of fear, worry and anxiety about paying off those bills.

Thinking that solving your emotional problems by buying “stuff” and on credit too is doubly foolish.  This is like taking paracetamol for pain when you really need surgery, we’re here to tell you that God is the Master Surgeon! Go to the Lord instead of those stores and ask Him for Divine Therapy, get to the root of your emotions ask Him to give you peace and healing. “Yeah, but I deserve to treat myself after all I’ve been through”. And yes, if its within your budget and not on credit.

Practically - find other activities, like doing charitable work, going to a park  and just sitting being still and meditate on God’s goodness - these are just some things that can put everything back into perspective for you.

Avoid those stores at all costs it’s another trap by the devil to keep you in a cycle of sadness, spending, then debt, then fear and guilt, sad again about debt, spending, more debt, then guilty and fearful, sad…….you get the picture?

It’s time to break the cycle and free yourself from the bondage. Click HERE  for prayer points.

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me,
for the LORD has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
      and prisoners will be freed.
2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the LORD’s favor has come,
and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
3 To all who mourn in Israel,
he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
      festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the LORD has planted for his own glory.
